DaWanda Backstage

Hello!

I hope you enjoyed the long weekend and made the most of the available sunshine. I spent mine gallavanting around Berlin checking out the fleamarkets. Arkonaplatz in Prenzlauerberg is one which I hadn’t been to before, and I have to say although it’s small, it certainly has alot to offer. It’s especially ideal for anyone who has just moved into a new home, as there are several stalls of high quality vintage homewares and furniture! I also took some time out to get busy in the kitchen and made a batch of brown-bread ice-cream. I found this recipe, which is pretty easy, and very delicious!

I find it unbelieveable that 2007 is already nearly reaching the halfway mark! Watch out for our Special Launch offer at Dawanda which is running until 31st May!

The Pulse Design Show will be happening in London next week, featuring “the best of British design and talent under one roof” from 3-5 June. Bridget West who runs her shop Pieces of You on DaWanda, is one of those best-of designers, and has even been chosen by Selvedge Magazine as one of four designers from the UK to be featured in the special Launch Pad area. This is very exciting and I would like say congratulations to Bridget! The DaWanda team wishes you all the best at the show next week.

 ”I Used to Be Trousers” by Pieces of You

Bridget has created a very chic collection of work, specialising in interior textiles with a conscientious twist. There are several ranges within this collection, from the printed pieces on organic textiles to the selection of elegant cushions made using reclaimed fabric materials such as discarded clothing (as indicated by some of the excellent names Bridget has given her pieces).

(I especially love the small details in Bridget’s work, like the aeroplane and the trail it leaves behind. Visit the Pieces of You stall at the Pulse Design Show next week, Bridget will be set up at stall number LP76.

Don’t forget that coming up next month is Father’s Day on 17th June! Why not take the time to write a special card to your dad and let him know why he is so great. 12fifteen offers a gorgeous selection of paper goods, including these retro note-cards inspired by the 60’s (maybe your dad will relate to that particular decade…)

Finally, here is an event that I would like to let you know about. When I am not a busy Dawanda bee, I am a dj….or should i say, D-Jane (the name for girl djs in Germany!). At the moment I am organising a monthly party called “Expect Excellence” which is aimed at showcasing the work from an up and coming artist or designer. (See flyer below.) This Saturday we will be exhibiting jewellery design work from Berlin based, Swiss native TADA Fashion. You are cordially invited to stop by and join in the party! The venue is Kim, BrunnenStr.10 from 11pm (no cover charge.)
