DIY: Winter Garland

craft1Hey guys, welcome to the first in our series of DIY Christmas projects, to keep your crafty fingers busy in the run-up to the festive season. Today we’re beginning with a simple yet stunning winter garland.

Garlands are super easy to make, and a great decoration for your windows and walls. With the right supplies you can make our golden garland very easily. You could also choose your own beads and charms, or a different colour scheme. The possibilities are endless! You can use dried fruits like cranberries and oranges, or even popcorn to make it look great. Have fun and be creative!

For our garland you will need:

– golden foil (from a craft shop)
– white pompoms (like the ones you can find in the Bastelservice shop)
– nylon thread (from e.g. the AnaPerles shop
– transparent glass beads (you’ll find some in the olay shop)
– a needle
– a pencil

craft2First, cut off roughly the length of nylon thread which you will need – ours is about 40cm long. You can draw designs such as stars and birds on the foil with a thread. Either draw free-hand, or look on the internet for suitable templates.

Hearts, shooting stars, christmas trees and angels could all look lovely. Then very carefully cut your designs out. You can fold the paper to cut more than one at once.

craft3Now you can begin threading pompoms, glass beads, gold stars and birds onto the thread in whichever order you choose.

When you reach the end, knot the nylon thread with a double knot. Now you just need to find a nice window to put your garland on.

Garlands are a super craft-project for children, just keep them away from small parts and needles.
