Interview with: Love and Knit

This morning we’re chatting to Miné, whose DaWanda shop Love and Knit is one of our favourite destinations for a little winter shopping. As the name suggests, Miné is an avid knitter, who channels her talents into cosy yet fashion forward knitted accessories and fashions. Curl up at home in one of her cosy cardigans, or brave the freeze in a hand-knit hat or scarf. Check out Love and Knit, where there’s 12% off everything today!, then head back over here for the lovely Miné’s tale of how it all came to be:

Please tell us a bit about yourself:
I live in Istanbul. Travelling, photography, music and creating are my passions.

How did you discover that you have creative tendencies?
Actually I don’t even remember that. I think this is how I was born. My favourite games were knitting or sewing clothes for my dolls when I was a little girl. My mother is a very talented woman and I’m grateful to her for giving me the talent genes. Even though I studied fashion, I learned everything from her at first.

Do you have any role models/inspirations in the area of Design? If so, who and why?
Not a specific person. I love bohemian style. Hippies and gypsies are an endless source of inspiration for me. A free spirit, colours, good thoughts and music is all I need.

How did you come up with the ideas for the products in your DaWanda shop?
Before I began to sell, I was already knitting all these items, just because I love to knit. I was wearing some of them or giving them to friends as gifts. Now I am happy to have found a good platform to send them to people who like them.

Which materials do you use to create your products?
Choosing materials is my favourite part of my work. I feel like a kid in candy store when I am in a supply store. The materials I use are very important for me because I am mostly getting my inspiration from them. I love to use high quality materials – this is my way of enjoying the production process and the way of being sure of the result.

Please give us a brief summary of your creative process:
If I have a design in my mind, I firstly try to find the best materials. Or sometimes materials inspire me, then I try to think of the best shape for the materials to take, and then I create it. People ask me for patterns but I don’t usually make patterns – I keep everything in my mind.

What characterises your products/your style?
I guess my shop name tells everything. Love and Knit! Made with love, happy, high quality products characterise my work.

Who are your customers?
The vast majority of my customers are young women. But I believe my products are ageless. I also have older women, men and even kid customers. Anyone who feels cold in winter could be my customer.

What do you want to achieve in the future as a Designer/Creative?
I will just continue to do what I love.

What role does DaWanda play in your daily creative life?
DaWanda makes everything easier for me. We are like perfect co-workers.

How has your life changed since you opened your DaWanda shop?
Now I am working from home, so my life style has changed completely.

Please give us the names of your favourite shops on DaWanda:
- Paola Zakimi
- Three Blue Bees

Has anything weird or wonderful happened to you on DaWanda?
The best thing is, some of my regular customers have become good friends. Now I have friends all over the world. And it makes me feel like a rock star when I receive messages like ‘I just stopped by to say, I love your work!’. These are wonderful.

Any closing comments?
Thank you for this honour.
