Interview with: Lunara

lunara Hi everyone,

This week we had the pleasure of meeting the lovely Mara, proprietor of the Lunara shop here on DaWanda. Mara’s shop features a wide variety of gifts created using her own original artwork, including pocket mirrors, keychains, jewellery and more, plus prints of the work itself. Mara’s style is definitely like no other – her vivid, gorgeously-hued paintings depict creatures of myth and magic, as well as icons of Mexican culture such as Frida Kahlo and Day of the Dead imagery. Please tell us a bit about yourself:
I am Mara Cardenas aka lunara, a graphic designer and artist painter. Painting has been my passion since I was a child. I love art in all expressions. I studied the career of Graphic Design, and have taken some workshops in Visual and Plastic Arts.

How did you discover that you have creative tendencies?
Since I was a child, I was always painting and drawing.

Where do you find your inspiration?
My inspiration comes from the total expression of my Being, which includes feelings, emotions, spirituality, magic and fantasy.

Do you have any role models/inspirations in the area of Design? If so, who and why?
Some of my models and inspirations are Frida Kahlo, Leonora Carrington and Klimt – love the surrealism and Art Nouveau, love the colour.

How did you come up with the ideas for the products in your DaWanda shop?
Dreams, inspiration, meditation, looking to put my art in all.

Which materials do you use to create your products?
For art: canvas, paper, oil, acrylic, paintings, for jewellery: charms, metal, stones, crystals and for souvenirs: paper, metal buttons, prints, etc.

Please give us a brief summary of your creative process?
First the inspiration comes to me, then I do my work, my painting, then i take a photo, i do the prints and i try to put the image in all things like souvenirs, jewellery, stationery.

What characterises your products/your style?
Fantasy art, whimsical, Mexican. Romantic, vintage. I love colour!

Who are your customers?
Lovely people from different countries!

What do you want to achieve in the future as a Designer/Creative?
I want to continue creating more and more art, cute designs. I want to explore with different materials in jewellery like gemstones and different techniques.

What role does DaWanda play in your daily creative life?
DaWanda is very important for me. It’s my lifestyle – I love to have a shop here, it’s very easy, it has a great design, great structure. Love it!

How has your life changed since you opened your DaWanda shop?
A lot, I have much work here and I like it.
