DaWanda and TheKey.to present: The READY TO GREEN Fashion Prize

TheKey.to was launched in Berlin in July 2009, becoming the first international event for green fashion and sustainable lifestyle. This year for the third time, 70 international labels will be showcasing some of the newest trends in fashion, with a focus on ecological and ethically produced quality clothing, as well as cool and innovative design.

On DaWanda, the online marketplace for unique products, green design has developed into a real lifestyle trend. More and more designers, who take ecological and ethical production for granted as a part of their label, are using the platform to sell their products. DaWanda offers young labels an extraordinary stepping stone from which to launch their design careers, and provides continued support for these labels to develop.

DaWanda and TheKey.to are both interested in discovering fashion which is not only ethically-minded, but also has a great design and sense of style. They want to promote these ideas amongst young creatives and up-and-coming fashion designers over the long term by launching an annual fashion prize. In addition to being a great way to promote talented designers, the prize seeks to make the public aware of the importance and appeal of green fashion.

In the run up to this year’s exhibition, DaWanda and TheKey.to are working together to try to find three of the most innovative new outfits which embrace the theme of ‘green fashion’, and can be showcased to visitors at the fashion fair.

The prize will be awarded to three complete winning looks in the area of Men’s/Women’s Fashion. These looks will represent a new and truly modern standard in the field of eco-fashion.

The kind of outfits they are looking for will present innovative and wearable design trends, incorporating unique cutting and patterning, or special types and uses of materials in the construction. The quality of the final product should be in keeping with relevant international design standards. All outfits have to meet the standards set by TheKey.to’s Sustainability Check. Participating outfits will be judged by a select jury of experts, including internationally renowned designer Peter Ingwersen of the high fashion eco-labels NOIR and Bllack Noir, J’N’C Editor-in-Chief Ilona Marx, journalist and author Dr. Kirsten Brodde, plus experts from TheKey.to and DaWanda.

Outfits will be judged according to the following criteria:

1. Innovation in technique and materials used: exceptional combinations of materials, newly developed materials, experimental fabrics and techniques
2. Innovation in design: a cutting-edge, ‘futuristic’ form and silhouette, interesting patterns and technical proficiency
3. Sustainability Check: all outfits have to meet the standards of TheKey.to’s Sustainability Check. Obligatory criteria to meet include using sustainable material and observing prescribed social standards. Optional criteria to meet include utilising a traditional handcraft and using textiles which have been ethically produced and sourced credit is given for meeting these optional criteria.
