Friday DIY: Felt Brooches

1

Today’s DIY tutorial brings that spring feeling straight to your outfit. Sonja of desertöse has designed these beautiful, colourful brooches, which are easy to make (great for an afternoon with the kids) and a guaranteed pick-me-up on a muggy spring day.

You will need:

  • 5 mm thick felt sheet
  • 1 mm thick felt
  • Felt scraps (various colors)
  • Scissors
  • PVA glue
  • Cardboard
  • Pen or soft pencil
  • Self-adhesive brooch pin

Instructions:

Collect all your materials together and begin with the stencils for the brooches. Draw a heart and pear shape on the cardboard and then cut the stencils out with scissors.

3a 3b

Draw around the stencils with a pen or soft pencil on the thicker sheet of felt, then cut them out. Stencil the pear as well on the thinner (here, green) felt and cut it out.

Glue the green felt pear to the pink one, making sure you spread the glue evenly and not too thick on the pink pear. Now you can decorate your heart and pear with leftover bits of felt. The bulb can get a “highlight” on the body and a stem. The heart can be decorated with dots and small triangles.

Finally, stick the adhesive brooch pin firmly on the back. Apply a bit of pressure, and it should stick really easily. And there you have your homemade brooches!
